Aftercare,

The most important step in the whole tattoo process.

Make it count.

Plastic Wrap

Leave the plastic wrap on until you get home. But no longer than 3-4 hours. The best thing for your tattoo is for it to breathe.

Once you take the plastic off, you’ll want to wash your hands, then tattoo with an anti-bacterial pump hand soap like Dial. preferably unscented. (alcohol in the scent can irritate the tattoo) Make sure you wash your hands before AND after every cleaning session.

You’ll start washing your tattoo 3-4 times a day for the first 3-5 days. keeping it clean in the first initial days are the most vital for a healthy tattoo.

After about a week, you can cut down to washing your tattoo 1-2 times a day and moisturizing it lightly with an unscented moisturizer. you don’t want to over wash or over moisturize, use moisturizer as needed.

The tattoo should be healed in about 2-4 weeks. If you see any lighter areas in the tattoo once its healed, come back in and we can touch it up for ya!

Saniderm/Second Skin

Keep the first piece on for 24-48 hours. you will see blood and plasma build up under the bandage. perfectly normal, thats just your body trying to heal the tattoo. If plasma starts to leak out of the bandage, you’ll want to change it out immediately to the second piece.

-How to change the bandage

-take off the bandage, wash your hands, then the tattoo with an antibacterial hand soap like Dial.

- Let the tattoo completely air dry for about 10 minutes.

-peel the white backing off of the new bandage, stick onto your tattoo, make sure there is about at least 1/2 inch border around the tattoo, and flatten completely. peel off plastic backing.

Keep that second bandage on for about 5-7 days. you’ll be just find to shower, workout, work, etc. just no submerging, so no bathtubs, swimming pools, hots tubs, etc.

If you start to see redness or irritation around the edges of the bandage, take it off immediately and start taking care of the plastic wrap way.

After the 5-7 days, take off the bandage, wash your hands, then your tattoo. At this point, the tattoo should be almost completely healed, but youll still want to wash is 1-2 times a day for the next week and moisturizing when it feels dry.

The whole process should be about 2 weeks, 1 week of having the bandage on, and another of keeping it clean and moisturized.

Inkling Butter

My personal favorite when it comes to tattoo aftercare, its made with all natural ingredients, feels like a cloud and takes away redness like no other moisturizer I’ve ever used. I even use it occasionally when I’m tattooing.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a great way to heal your tattoo, it has anti-bacterial properties to it, and a little goes a long way!

Aquaphor

Personally never used this for any of my tattoos, but lots of my clients have used it and LOVED it. I’ve heard great things about it, and its one of the most popular moisturizers when it comes to healing tattoos.

Keep in mind, even though I recommend these moisturizers, doesn’t mean they’re going to work for you. These are just things I’ve seen a lot of success with. Everyone’s skin unique and needs different things. If you have an unscented moisturizer that you like, and works for you, go ahead and use that!
